Saturday June 9, 2007

A short post today since we have had a busy day.

We needed to run a few errands this morning, and we had gotten a call from Julia (which in and of itself was pretty cool) to say that they found room out on the normal floor for her.

She was eventually transferred out of the ICU. The move left us a little more emotionally confused then we had anticipated. On one hand it is the next step and there is something significant about leaving the ICU, but on the other hand, you get one on one care and all the nurses knew and loved Julia on the ICU. She was some what of a rarity and therefore was really special in their eyes.

Julia continues to struggle with her digestive system and is still just on liquids, jello, and apple sauce. She had tried some stuff like toast, but most foods leave her with an upset stomach, so prayers on that front. She also is still fighting a persistent cough and they have her doing breathing exercises to try to get her to breath deeper.

In the business of the move, I didn't get any new pictures today, so I thought I would post this one from earlier in the week of Marika in her favourite (favorite - for my split Canadian/US personality) position :)

Dear Julia, Matt, and Marika,
Another answer to prayer, out of the ICU! Yes, I imagine it was an emotional time; you had such wonderful nurses that went beyond and above! But Julia, you will continue to get good care and we will be praying that all other functions will get back to normal very soon.
One of (many) Bible passages Dad and I were reading when we were in the waiting room was Psalm 86. (This was shared with Dad from your next door ICU patient's relatives). Verses 6 and7 read: "Hear my prayer, O Lord: listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me." And then the song that comes from that passage starts playing in head and heart. What a powerful and merciful God we have-may His name be praised!

Love and hugs,
Mom Kay, Dad CJ and Danny

Hey Matt, Julia and Marika!

We can certainly understand those mixed emotions. Funny how that happens, hey? What a time to praise too. Steve came home tonight from Quebec and we just thanked the Lord together that you are out of the ICU!! And I just realized that we have shifted to writing directly to Julia, another step in the right direction.

We will continue to pray for your ongoing recovery Julia. We hope that soon your tummy is able to tolerate more solids and that you continue to gain energy and strength. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"

The three of you are in our prayers and we look forward to the day when Marika and Jayden can meet each other. Give her a kiss from us and blessings to you all for another day.
Love Steve & Belinda and Jayden

Dear Julia, Matt and Marika;
God is showing His awesome power and love in your wonderful recovery. We all know He can do great things and will continue to heal Julia. Let's praise Him for the remarkable gifts each day has brought you and remember that He wants only the best for you all.
We can't wait to see you together in your home, comfortable and going through what all new parents should - the awe and wonder of Marika's new life and the celebration of every tiny step of her development. You will get to do double duty on that - marveling at Julia's progress at the same time! Praise the Lord :)
Love and blessings,
Tom and Greta
